What is Charcot Marie Tooth
Updated: Oct 19, 2019
Believe it or not, Charcot Marie Tooth has nothing to do with your teeth. Charcot Marie Tooth, often referred to as "CMT" is an inherited degenerative neurological disease often causing muscle weakness, decreased muscle size, decreased sensation, hammertoes, and high arches. It is not fatal. However people who suffer from this disease are often limited in some way in what they can do physically.
The main treatments are physical therapy and occupational therapy. Medications may reduce pain.
A lot of progress has been made with research, especially through organizations such as the Charcot Marie Tooth Association (CMTA). Additionally, with the right amount of exercise and the right footwear and body wear, a person doesn't have to experience the full effects.
My goal is to research and share products and to educate people to live the fullest life possible as I am. Below is a short video explaining CMT.
